I never cease to be amazed at the talent and inspiration my clients bring me! This party is definitely no exception! One of my dear clients, Andrea Edgar, designed this Gorgeous (with a capitol G!) tea party for her daughter’s 5th birthday.
Always my inspiration for an event, is to somehow transport the guest to another dream-like world. Andrea did just that. One look at these charming photos and you know these sweet little girls were in a world of their own! Take a look at her daughter’s perfectly poised tea party event!
In her email to me, Andrea said, “The invitations were definitely an inspiration for me – vintage but not too sophisticated. This was a birthday for a five year old, after all! I embellished them with glitter.” I think we all can agree this is a little too generous of a compliment! Inspiration for a beautiful party like this only comes from the inside! I love how she embellished them with glitter. Since her purchase, I have redesigned this invitation a bit. You can find it here. Now I wish I had added glitter myself! Adorable.
Andrea had each adorable little guest wear a vintage hat from her oldest daughter’s collection. Precious.Andrea had he guests were asked to bring their favorite doll or teddy. They took photos, colored, made paper fans, played pass the present (unwrapping one layer at a time) and ‘Find Your Dolly’.
Andrea: “The girls had so much fun being little ladies – they really got into their roles! This theme really reflected the transition of my preschooler moving into being a little girl, too.)”
Loralee’s comment: In a world full of over-the-top parties, I am a believer that parties should be age appropriate. You shouldn’t just throw a beautiful big party just to throw a beautifulbig party. Your event should reflect the guest of honor and who they are at the time! I have tried to do this with all my events. I love how Andrea really thought deeply about what would fit her little Meredith’s personality and age!
Andrea: “For tea, everything was homemade: cranberry scones with devonshire cream and raspberry preserves, egg salad and heart-shaped PB & J sandwiches, carrots and snap peas, oreo truffles, jam thumbprint cookies, lemon bars, white chocolate-dipped strawberries, and vanilla cupcakes with raspberry buttercream. The girls also drank LOTS of tea (actually, mostly milk with a little tea:) The tiered tray was topped with the letter ‘M’ for our daughter, Meredith.”
Loralee’s comment: Of course it was all homemade! I love this woman! Just fabulous.
Andrea: “Altogether I used 5 fabrics, 2 from Jo-Ann (a pink solid and cream with blue polka dot), a blue polka dot organza I’ve used for many other parties, and two florals from tablecloths I found at Homesense that reminded me of Cath Kidston prints. I promptly cut them up to make 3 table runners with ruffled edges, a bunting with pom-pom trim, a photobooth backdrop and handmade flowers. I sewed flowers of three different styles and of multiple sizes to adorn the chandelier, as well as to form a ‘bouquet’ in the teapot for the centerpiece. I used some of my grandmother’s brooches to serve as the center of select flowers.”
Loralee’s comment: I have found that whenever a person adds personal intimate touches (no matter how seemingly insignificant), it brings a warmness to the event. The fact that Andrea added brooches from her grandmother’s jewelry box and vintage hats from her eldest daughter’s collection – beautifies Meredith’s little tea party. I am definitely going to try and do that more with my own events!
Is she just not more special than Christmas?!
Below is the perfect tea-party planner herself! What a cute family!?!
A special thank you to Andrea for letting me be a part of Meredith’s tea party! And an extra-big thank you for letting me share it with my readers!
