It’s inauguration day and (no matter what your political party preference) it’s time to put on a party that gives off a feel that can only be described as “glObama.”
Today is the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama as America’s 44th and first black president.
This day has added significance for me and Annie, because my son (2) is black and my daughter (1) is biracial. I was blessed to adopt Ethan from Uganda in 2007 and Vienna sixty days later here in the United States. They are the light of my life and I am thrilled that they will grow up in a country always knowing that they truly can be anything that want to be in this wonderful nation of the United States.
That being said, let’s get this party started! Here are a few of our favorite inauguration day ideas. Choose a few or do all of them. Celebrate!
1. Red, White, and Blue Jello Parfaits from Martha Stewart. They are so cute. Try them out today and perfect them for July. Love it.
2. Alpha+Mom Printable Inauguration Cupcake Toppers
These ladies have done it all for you. Just download, print, and make it happen. So No Fuss Fabulous.
3. Oh, Martha. You are just so fabulous – not always No Fuss….but ALWAYS fabulous. Try out this old fashioned Red White and Blue garland. It’s surprisingly easy. I made it last year for 4th of July and just loved it. Find it here.
4. Stars & Stripes Soup. Take one can of Campbell’s chicken noodle soup and one can of Campbell’s chicken & stars, add two cans water, heat and serve in red bowls! Your kids will love it.
5. Bakerella’s Patriotic Pops. I simply can’t get over these. They are so cute. I should nominate her for president.
6. Okay, we agree this edible eagle is a little ridiculous…but isn’t it also a little fabulous? Try it and let us know what you think. Find it here. FamilyFun.com’s Edible Eagle.
Annie: Love this post Loralee! I am printing out lots of pictures for the inauguration and then taping them to a string to make them a banner. The banner will drape across my dinner table this evening. If you would like even more cupcake toppers and the some of the pictures I am using for my banner go here or here! Here are some examples of the clipart you can find there:
