Cinco de Mayo Sombrero Cookies!

0504_ej_sombreroWhat?!? You are in love with these edible sombreros?!? So am I.

I fell in LOVE with the idea of making edible sombreros today. I was so excited. I was thinking of using miniature Reese’s Peanut Butter cups on top of Fudge Striped cookies, similar to the Witch Hats I did in October, but then I unfortunately found out that Family Fun had already come up with their own version of edible sombreros. Dang it, Family Fun! They beat me every time. So I did what any reasonable woman would do. I went ahead, used a lot of their input, and then tried to make mine twenty thousand times cuter. But in the end, you can’t beat Family Fun , especially when your camera is not working and you are afraid of taking your toddlers to the store due to some pig virus pandemic which began in the country you are trying to celebrate. The irony of it all. Needless to say, I have some really cute edible sombreros here that do give Family Fun a run for their money, but due to Mexican pigs cursing those who want to love and celebrate their country, I am not able to show you the photos, at least until tomorrow. In the meantime, try out Family Fun’s version. No, they are not as cute as mine, but I would be lying if I said they weren’t absolutely adorable.

Here’s what you do:

Ingredients
1 sugar cookie
white icing
nonpareils, colored
white gumdrop

1. To make one, frost the edge of a sugar cookie with white icing and roll it in colored nonpareils.
2. Next, coat the bottom and the lower edge of a small white gumdrop with frosting. Roll the edge of the gumdrop in the nonpareils, then set the gumdrop in the center of the cookie.
