Today, I was mumbling about the glass ceiling as I was working from my home office. I came to a common conclusion: women are part of the problem too. When a newly hired male comes into an office situation, a common scenario might be for the “big guys” to take the “new guy” out for drinks after work. They become buddies. This isn’t the case when a female new hire walks into an office. Women (generally speaking) do not rush to welcome the new girl in. They size her up, check out the new competition, etc. etc. As women we need to be more willing to help each other succeed! We shouldn’t see each other as competition, we should see each other as teammates not only in the workplace, but also in life. In spirit of that thought, I threw together a collage of seventeen of my recent faves to share that are helping me be a better employee, student, mom, wife, and overall woman. Most of them are silly, but I hope some of them are fun and helpful in making you be or feel like the great women we all are! Here’s my list:
1. RCA EZ Camcorder – it’s under $100, is so tiny, and has a jumpdrive inside it! Not the best picture in the world, but perfect for the park or on the go. This has made it tons easier to catch those special moment on-the-go.
2. Fiber One Bars – 140 calories and 9 GRAMS of fiber. Eight seconds in the microwave you think you are eating a homemade cookie.
3. Momagenda – The best day planner for a mom. Trust me I have tried everything.
4. Google Reader – Join. It’s the only way I am able to keep up on friends. Period.
5. Asus Eeepc – The tiniest best on-the-go laptop. It fits in my little purses!
6. CoverGirl Long lasting Smoothwear – The only lip color that truly lasts. Put on your own clear lip gloss over it though. Don’t use theirs.
7. Food Network Recipes – Don’t try all the other recipe websites. You will be disappointed.
8. The Little Black Book of Style by Nina Garcia – Every woman should read it!
9. American Family Association – Get email alerts (read them though) on issues that affect families. You can send a letter to your Senator immediately.
10. ACDSee Pro 2 – Okay, My sister bought this for me. You HAVE to have it. Organizes all your digital photos and all you do is type in the name and the photo of digi scrap stuff pops up. Brilliant. So brilliant.
11. Crystal Lite WHITE GRAPE – New flavor! The only way I get eight glasses of water!
12. Frederick’s of Hollywood Final Clearance Sale – Cute lingerie for six bucks. You will find more than you need, but can a girl have too much lingerie?
13. Insolia inserts – I can full on run in my high heels because of these babies.
14. Baby Einstein Flash Cards – Taught Ethan all the animals in one day!
15. ABC.COM – Okay, we don’t have tv. I think it’s bad for kids. But I am human, so I love ABC.com I can catch my Grey’s Anatomy any time without the commercials. Brilliant.
16. Nighty-Night dolls – Look very much like the Pottery Barn dolls for half the price and have culturally diverse dolls. I bought all eight for V and E.
17. Mission Carb Balance Tortillas – Taste just like normal tortillas, but are only 80 calories and 7 grams of fiber. Makes lunches and dinners healthy so easily!
