A few months ago, I read an article in ParentLife Magazine that I’ve thought a lot about and thought I would share. The article was titled, Mentors for Moms. It spoke about how moms having mentors was God’s idea and how we as women need mentors. The author gave the example of Mary and Elizabeth and how when Mary, the mother of Jesus, found out that she was going to be the mother of a very special baby she “set out and hurried” (Luke 1:39) to visit her older relative Elizabeth, who was also pregnant. Young as she was, Mary recognized her need for a godly woman’s companionship. I hadn’t ever looked at the story from that angle. So I’ve been making a silent list of those who teach and inspire me to be a better woman and mother of God. It’s also made me think about how I should and can be a better mentor for others. The message certainly applies to all women of all ages no matter what their child-count is. I think sometimes in today’s world, a lot of women feel alone. We are more isolated by busy schedules and a lack of community than women in the past. I think it’s part of Satan’s plan to have us believe we are all alone, rather than see those who would help us out. But the bottom line is that it’s not true, and we just need to “set out and hurry” to find those who we need and need us.
Titus 2:3-5
“Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live… to teach what is good. Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.”
