I loved making my first yarn wreath inspired from the ever-so-talented Constant Gatherer, that I just had to make another for Valentine’s Day! This one has two love birds (found in the wedding section of a craft store) giving Valentines to one another while sitting in a nest made of pink tulle! I think they still need mini glittery crowns on their heads, but I will have to make those later. Take a look at Constant Gatherer’s Etsy shop and buy one of her pieces! If they are not quite in your budget yet, here are the steps to making a faux one once again:
1. Obtain a wreath form. For my first wreath, I cut a wreath form out of packaging styrofoam I was keeping to repurpose. For this wreath I bought a natural straw wreath for three dollars from the craft store.
2. Pick out the colors of yarn you would like to use. Chose at least two or more for interest. Different textures and thicknesses also add a pop of interest to your wreath.
3. Wrap the straw wreath with 6 inch strips of cotton batting. Securing the batting to the wreath every once in a while with a pin.
4. Start wrapping the wreath with your yarn! I like to hold one end of the wreath between my legs then use both hands to wrap the yarn around the wreath while watching a movie. Pay attention to where the yarn is going and what pattern you would like. My wreaths have 3 colors wrapped around without any pattern, but you can try stripes of color or patches!
5. Once all the batting is covered and it looks how you like it, embellish with anything you have around the house: scrabble pieces, puzzle pieces, letters, tulle, ribbon, birds, toys, animals, glitter, etc.
How to make a tulle nest:
1. Chose the color of tulle you would like to use either in ribbon form (4-5inches wide) or in bolts cut to that width.
2. Cut 4-6 inch long pieces of tulle. This can vary depending on how big your birds or eggs are and how fluffy you want your nest.
3. Tie in a knot 4-6 pieces of cute tulle with another piece. Fluff and spread them apart. (This can also be a fun bow on a present!)
4. Pin multiple knotted tulle bows in a circle to the wreath to make a “nest”.
5. Secure with birds, eggs, etc with floral wire.
