Mr. Lewis and I have an infatuation with Harry Potter.
It’s bad enough that I would call it borderline embarrassing.
I’m not dressing up as Lucius Malfoy yet,
but I’d be lying if I told you I had not thought about it.
I do have the hair.
So you’d be surprised to know that I’ve been holding off on creating a Harry Potter inspired invitation.
The truth is Mr. Lewis has been begging me for some time now to create one and for an odd reason – nothing was coming. That, and I didn’t want to disappoint Mr. Lewis when a Phoenix didn’t come out of the invitation, hand him a new invitation from Hogwarts and then burn up in front of his eyes. Surprisingly, Mr. Lewis has a flair for the dramatic.
Luckily, there is no better cure for procrastination than a deadline looming
– as I always say “if you wait to the last minute only takes a minute!”
Mr Lewis and I had planned an intimate (but scheduled!) Harry Potter event for October 29th with one other couple. So I rushed an invitation together a few weeks back and you are seeing what I came up with.
Unfortunately, sans Phoenix or burning or any kind.
And here’s a look at the party! It really was so much fun.
Below is the dessert table!
I served soup in pumpkin bowls with bread sticks on the dining table.
I wish I could take credit for the cute names, but its’ all J.K. Rowling!
I tried to stay pretty true to the books.
With the exception of “Hufflepuff’s Famous Popcorn” and “Edible Sorting Hats”
– apparently I couldn’t help myself.
Our “Pumpkin Juice” from The Three Broomsticks.
I placed ‘Hedwig’ and his buddies all around the tables and chairs.
I kind of credit Harry Potter for bringing owls into trend.
I’m a huge proponent of good food at a party.
These adorable spiderweb cookies I found at Walmart. I have vowed never to go there again, but for some reason about once a week I look up and find myself in the parking lot with a cart full of plastic bags. It’s the same story with me, Target, and their return policy. Cue the violins.
Here are my little popcorn Thank You favors.
After our guests left and our kiddies were asleep,
Mr. Lewis and I watched the first Harry Potter outside on a laptop.
Our goal is to finish them all before the premier of the new movie. But considering we are parents of three kiddos under four and fall asleep the minute we hit any bed type surface. The outlook is bleak.
But we did have a fabulous time!
